Here's something odd:
- it's a picture by Alan Lee of Gandalf on Gwaihir, overflying Helm's Deep. hmm...
The vendor, a certain Mr Fish - - opines:
"if you collect Tolkien, believe me, you’ll SERIOUSLY want this!!!"
Um.... no; not for me.

On the Gwaihir print, a little more description from the original sale:
"The giclee depicts the flight of Gandalf the Grey from Isengard over the stone fortifications of Helm's Deep. Gwaihir, the Lord of the Eagles, bears the Wizard to freedom and onward in his quest to protect the freedom of the people of Middle-earth. This is a scene which was cut in the early days of the scripts' development and, can therefore, only be seen in the conceptual art by Alan Lee."
I suppose he could have flown over Helm's Deep on this trip....

This is, unlike most eBay descriptions that I list, a rare item, but I question the slipcase description looking at the picture (shown below)
Lord of the Rings - Alan Lee - Centenary Ed. - 1992 in slipcase £269.90 Buy it Now
All three books are in very good condition. All spines faultless and tight. Dustjackets not price clipped and all in very good condition with only minimal wear (The Two Twoers even in near mint condition). Only the slipcase shows clears signs of use and wear and is only in acceptable condition with scratches and rubbing off to corners. But since there have only been about 100 slipcased editions been issued according to Peter Collier from tolkienlibrary it is save to say this is rare!
Looking at the picture below, do people think this is acceptable (in fact is acceptable a correct term for books or slipcases)??

Poor, (G-), Good, (G+), (VG-), VG, (VG+), (NF), & Fine --there ain't no place for acceptable Trotter.
That aside, I think the term "acceptable" is the equivalent to the bottom of the grading scale i.e. poor. If this slipcase is not actually detached/split (which it looks like it might be), and only bashed, then it might correctly still be described as G; with qualification.
It is rare though. Well, so says that boy Peter...
