This one is very strange, a first edition library book (ROTK 3rd Imp 1957), but laminated in a second edition dust-wrapper, 9 years later at least and from another copy of the book????
I noticed that too Trotter, but just couldn't muster the effort to post it. Some people have too much time on their hands...

I'm sure a lot of you have noticed the 2nd UK Impression of the Hobbit that is listed on ebay. Also some of you may have noticed that some or most of the photo's were taken by myself some years ago. The link to the auction is:
The reason I'm posting this notice, the seller indicates the book is in the original cloth with repairs to the spine tips. Then the photo's of mine, show that book, but not the exterior. The photo's that have been added after my request show a fully rebound copy, which also appears to have been one that I had rebound, by the small JRRT monogram on the spine versus the runes. I just wanted to point out that something is very wrong on this auction. It may be legit, but something is a bit hinky. The seller has not answered my questions about whether it is rebound or not, says to read the description (mine) and then goes and posts photo's of the fully rebound copy. Just wanted to warn anyone who might be considering bidding on this auction. Photo's of the original 'repaired' cover are attached.

The Hobbit - First Edition Second Impression 1937
Starting price $3400 Buy it now $5600
Additionally, you will see in one of the pictures a note with JRR Tolkiens's signature dated June 1973. Now I have never had this signature verified but it is possible it is his true signature as Tolkien Died September 1973. Eitherway, this comes with the book.
or it was produced on an Inkjet by dunedain
I think it is now as clear as mud, response from the seller via email, why have they included pictures of a rebound copy??
Thanks for the info on the signature.
Yes, I originally bought the book through a reputable book locator who I believe found it at the Tolkien bookshelf based on the signature sheet in the book.
The item text is word for word (pretty much) for how it was listed when I initially purchased it.
Yes, the cloth is in the original binding based on information I received prior to purchasing the book (see item text).
The book has been well maintained and must have originally been bought for collection purposes based on its condition. Of course I am speculating here as I don't know the previous owners but just looking at it, while you can see its an older book it is not weathered or worn looking.
I hope this helps. Note my return policy if you are not happy with it.
thx
Dave
