I'm curious what the 'big' book will be next year and offerings from HarperCollins/Houghton Mifflin. This year it was the illustrated edition of Unfinished Tales - even the calendar was themed around it. Last year, it was The Hobbit Sketchbook, and the year before that, The Fall of Gondolin and Beren and Luthien. So I'm curious what the 'big' book will be next year, and what the theme of the calendar would be. It'll also be interesting to see what - if any - collector's editions will come out from either publisher.

Isn't there an update of the Annotated Hobbit due out in March? I know it's been postponed a couple of times now, but hopefully it's still in the pipeline.
I haven't heard any updates from Doug on this. I've stopped pestering him about it and will be just as surprised as everyone else.

I assume you mean excluding The Nature of Middle-earth? Because there is no bigger release than primary texts.
You're right, though let's see how much emphasis they put on marketing it, though. I don't believe it's confirmed that it'll be published next year: the date (and other info) is merely a placeholder. The name of the book may even change.

Ummm... Urulókë what do you know?
Unfinished Tales got a deluxe edition and The Silmarillion is supposedly going to get one too; but TH and LOTR did not? ?
Edit: In any case, I’m really only anticipating The Nature of Middle-earth. All these other illustrated books are eye candy for me.
