I hope the listing being marked as sold is just a bit of fakery (rare_book_cellar, so certainly not a seller I would be confident about due to whiffy reputation on the various Easton Press fora back when I was collecting them)

If anyone really paid this, they are absolutely nucking futs. Today that might be a £300 book because the market is utterly mad. Three years ago, that was a £50 book (at a push with the writing and tape marks). I paid £40 for mine.

I really hope it just shenanigans to try and fool people into paying more for his other Hobbit.

I can't believe that it sold for that price to anyone who has any idea of value in Tolkien books, but could be NFT sellers or crypto investors who seem very happy with these ridiculous prices.

My guess is someone paid it or close to it. Could be someone who doesn't know what they're doing...there are about 10 '61 A&U Hobbits for sale on ABE books right now at a fraction of that price.
