No need for me to be in doubt about buying this then. Wasn't the LotR edition £1000? I was guessing The Hobbit would be around £400.

1504 pages, 53 illustrations, 3 volumes in large slipcase, illustrated interior slip = £1,000

344 pages, 28 illustrations, 1 volume in small slipcase, no mention of an interior illustration on the slip = £600

That is a serious price gouge from FS.

I'm pleased with the price, I thought it would be more.

I think any more and it might turn some people off. But I do get your point. I thought they might try for £700, which I would have regarded as an offensive number.

The general consensus among those who bought it (Twitter, FB, Reddit) is that the Lord of the Rings while very beautiful, was overpriced.

I bought it and I don't think that.

600 quid for a book is very expensive for the normal punter like me. The HC editions were pushing it as it is

These Folio editions are not designed for the normal punter, but you can probably get the HC version in a couple of years when it comes out.
