Hi Findegil (or anyone else who may know),
in J.R.R. Tolkien - A Descriptive Bibliography on p. 248, it states that the front flap of the first American edition(imported sheets) of The Book of Lost Tales, Part One (A21b) has a price on the front flap of $14.95, but that the book was actually published on 22 February 1984 at $16.95, and that the corrected sheets edition (A21c) also was published at $16.95.
Both of my copies (one of each state) have the dust-jacket with the $14.95 price. I've seen others report the price as clipped with a printed sticker price added.
Do you have any additional information on the pricing change? I assume that with the immense interest they decided to bump the price up, but it seems odd that they would print the dust-jackets for the additional 30,000 copies and not update the price.
I'll re-check The Tolkien Collector back issues to see if I missed any commentary on this point as well.
Thanks for any help!
