With so many good books out there by and about Tolkien, it is sad and unfortunate that David Day is now in Costco.
Someone brought a copy to a gift exchange for work, and it took everything in me not to say anything...

The latest reprints are especially gifty and very cheap, enticing the unaware to buy a book or two for a Tolkien reading loved one is the name of the game with these books.
I have certainly received a few over the years and they quietly get recycled into ash.
Has anybody here managed to avoid the odd DD gift?

I've managed to so far. But only by virtue of them thinking I have everything already (unless I put something on a wish list publicly, I don't get any Tolkien books as gifts ?)

I have in the past, but these days, like
Urulókë, I don't get Tolkien books as gifts as it is assumed that if I want it, I already have it (or can't afford it).
Day's work is pure gift market exploitation. And he is - from personal online experience - a dick who doesn't like negative reviews for his endlessly recycled books.

What I want to do some day, is visit my national book store chain; and move ALL the David Day books from 'T' (Tolkien) down to 'D'; where they hopefully might get forgotten about.

You could probably just burn them in the store. No sane judge would ever convict.

To be fair I have not had one for over 20 years for that same reason.
In fact I don't recall any Tolkien gifts since other than a Bilbo Baggins pipe more recently.
