Took a lot longer than I thought it would, but a complete rewrite of the messaging code has added the following functionality that I hope will be useful:

  • You will receive an email (to the email address in your account) when you receive new messages.
  • You can turn this on/off through your profile page options.
  • the emails will come from a "do not reply" email address from this site (therefore not exposing the sender's personal email to the recipient or vice versa)

  • You can send a message to anyone from your Inbox (you used to have to find their account page and then click "send PM button" from there).
  • also, as you start typing the name of the person you want to send a message to, it will offer auto-complete names. Click to choose, or hit enter when the right name is at the top of the list.

  • You can attach images and PDF files to your private messages
  • The same limitations on file extensions and file size apply as do for forum posts

  • Small cleanup on mobile interface - new message indicators are fixed in the site header and the inbox, making it clear when you have new messages.
