I will be hosting an online Zoom chat for the Tolkien Society this coming Saturday November 28th on the topic of Tolkien collecting in general, and holiday shopping if anyone needs ideas (or wants to share their own).
Membership in the Tolkien Society is needed for access to this event, so if you want to join in, head on over to
The Tolkien Society website and join any time between now and then.

Sure, I'd like to suggest something, if allowed on this space (I wasn't sure if you meant for viewers to submi theirt ideas during the event)
My suggestion is The Lord of the Rings illustrated slipcased edition. In terms of the quality you get for the price, this is a pretty solid option, and one of the nicer editions out there. It's still in print about six years after it had come out, and it looks like it'll stay that way for a while!
Here are some features that this edition has that makes it special:
- the entire novel as one book, including maps, and supplementary material (which includes the appendices, and an index)
- the most accurate text to date of when it was published
- re-scanned illustrations, so that the artwork looks the very best that it possibly can
- a ribbon marker
- a slipcase, to protect the book when it's not one that you're currently reading. (IE, shelving purposes. Wouldn't advise taking it in and out EVERY time you read)
- maps (with red ink used) on both endpapers (Middle-earth on one, and Rohan/Gondor/Mordor on the other)
- great paper and font quality (this is a great factor, considering that usually one-book editions of The Lord of the Rings need to have font or paper quality sacrificed slightly in order to make everything fit into a single book. That's not the case with this edition)
- the frontispiece of the Nazgul flying to Minas Tirith appears as a fold-out sheet
In terms of attributes that makes it special, it's very similar to the illustrated hardbacks of The Lord of the Rings that came out this year, except being 1 book instead of 3 being the biggest difference (and other very minor differences)
To find this edition, search using the ISBN of 9780007525546 .
Again, great quality and content for the price.

Was looking for a zoom link or registration on the Tolkien Society site. No luck. Also time to update our passwords.

It was fun, even though I hardly joined in. I hope there’s more.

Yes! That was a lot of fun. Perhaps these will be more frequent in 2021!
