I'd imagine that UK and US Tolkien releases would be identical going forward for non mass market editions and will be sold as HarperCollins editions in HMH markets.

Oh brother, I can't wait for the future US releases to say "News Corp" on the base of the spine.

"If this happens then I'd imagine that UK and US Tolkien releases would be identical going forward for non mass market editions."
I wonder if this will stop: "Can this be ordered in the US?"

- Random House (Dr. Seuss Enterprise's publisher) didn't decide to take the six Seuss books off the market, DSE did
- DSE is the equivalent of the Tolkien Estate for Seuss copyrighted material. They own the copyrights and trademarks, and decide what can be published and where.
- DSE decided that six older books "portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong", and decided to no longer publish them. They are not banned, they are not recalled, they are not being pulped, libraries are not being asked to remove them from circulation, so I have no idea how this can be considered "cancel culture". They are going out of print.
- The six books are near the bottom (as far as popularity/circulation numbers) of the Seuss catalogue - we are not talking Green Eggs & Ham (your equivalent title for The Hobbit here).

Oh, I'm aware of all that. I was simply making a tongue-in-cheek comment that News Corp could use its media outlets to manufacture reactionary outrage against a perceived socio-political slight against Tolkien for the purpose riling up a segment of their base to go and buy up books en masse.
(My in-laws who watch Fox News, for example, had at least five Seuss books in their Amazon cart shortly after the "controversy" dropped–ironically none of the now-OOP books. They weren't the only ones!)
DSE did the right thing (IMHO), and were well within their rights as a private entity to do so. "Cancel culture" is (largely) fallacious invective, but Murdoch loves using it to further narratives and sell things.
I didn't mean to take the topic so far off the rails though, so I'll leave the point here.

What a horrible thought!

Also worth noting that there were some textual revisions (albeit very minor) in the 1960s that removed some of the more offensive terms including from his first book the changing of the term 'Chinaman' to Chinese Man, as well as some minor revisions to the images of said man. There was already problems with some works before any 'cancel culture' came along.
DSE made a sensible decision on this one, in my opinion anyway.
And as Jeremy points to, the books are not exactly high on the sales list of Dr. Seuss works.
