Hi all,
A lot of us are having trouble with the site - sometimes pages take a really long time to load, or they don't load at all. This is an issue at my hosting provider (between my server and the web). They are working on it, but there's nothing I can do in the meantime (other than looking at other hosting providers as an option in the future).
I will post another update when (hopefully) this is resolved. My apologies to everyone, I know how frustrating it can be!

This is not the only slow site. Things seem slower with the war.

Is there an issue with Email notifications of New Posts?
For the past week, I have received no notifications at all.
Prior to that (for about 10-14 days or so) - all email notifications were going to my spam folder (which had never happened before).

Hi
remy! Yeah, I've been working to improve the notifications system as the emails were problematic for a lot of reasons. The ability to sign up for notifications has actually been disabled for years (eek).
A whole new system is now implemented and available! I do not (quite) have the "send me emails for every post" option turned on yet, but you can subscribe to each forum you are interested in already. I haven't yes written up a full guide (as I am still tweaking the user interface for everything) but you can do most of it yourself:
Go here:
https://www.tolkienguide.com/modules/newbb/ - then, at the top of the page, you will see a "manage forum preferences" button. Click on that, and you can turn on notifications (the little envelope option) for any forums you want. You will also see that you can mute any forums that you don't want to see posts from! (This will not only prevent emails, it will mean that posts made in those forums will not show up in the "recent" lists, "all topics" list, or on the homepage. So you can totally ignore areas of the forums that you are not interested in.)
You can also subscribe to emails on the topic level (especially handy for people who ask questions and don't want the full site notifications - just get emails when people reply to your question). And, you can mute specific topics (even if you have notifications turned on for that forum or the whole site eventually). The topic-level controls are available once you are viewing posts in a forum (e.g. here is the
Books and other printed materials forum page) and at the bottom of any topic thread you are currently reading.
There are additional forum areas coming soon that some of you will have no interest in, thus all this effort. The new email system is much more robust, hopefully everyone likes it and uses it. Feedback (positive and critical) is welcome!

Excellent. Thank You.
Indeed, much improved system.
