I have a copy of the Two Towers stated second printing; however, the title page is missing the year 1955. Does this make the book a third pringing?

Hi
CEB, I am assuming you are talking about the UK first editions.
http://tolkienbooks.net/php/details2.php?id=291Copies of the 3rd Impression are marked as the 2nd Impression, but do not state the year (1955) on the title page.
IT does sound like you have a third impression, yes.

I wonder that the third and subsequent impressions (yes UK editions) do not have the year printed. I also note that the first printing was in 1954 and the second in 1955. Does this make a difference? Thanks.

The third printing does not identify itself on the Copyright page as a third printing.
It, like, the second printing just states that it is the second printing.
However, only the first two printings had the date on the Title page, so if it stated second printing and a date is on the title page then it is the second print, no date on the title page then it is the third printing.

Thanks, Trotter. That makes sense and clears it up for me.
