Here’s a lovely video of an appraiser going through a 1st print Hobbit that was given to Simon as a boy, with a few surprises inside.

The episode was broadcast on the 30th December 1990, and this copy was sold at Sotheby's in 2003, not sure how much, which is one of the reasons why I add Auction Results today to the site so that you can see what is happening with prices for very rare items like this.
It has definitely gone up a bit in value since then.
