Conference abstract -
Tolkien's claim to literary fame is based largely on his epic work. Yet a number of shorter works, sometimes conceived independently of his Middle-earth project, are well worth reading and studying. It is these often neglected shorter works such as Farmer Giles of Ham, Smith of Wootton Major, Leaf by Niggle or The Adventures of Tom Bombadil that are going to be at the centre of the international Tolkien conference in Jena. Scholars and Tolkien experts from all over Europe are going to present their ideas and approaches to these works during three days of lectures (in English and German) and discussions.

Participation and entry to the lectures are free of charge.
