Tolkien writing to J.W. RuskRadcliffe College is an all-women school, so Tolkien was mistaken to write "Mr" - Rusk was highly likely to be a woman. Thanks to Doug Anderson for this clarification[1] and gives her some details on his relationship with R. G. Collingwood, noting that they did not know each other very well. Tolkien says he knew Collingwood's first wife as they lived close to each other. He says that he and Collingwood never discussed philosophy with each other.
