TCG Letter #2452

From
Christopher Wiseman
To
J.R.R. Tolkien
Date
14 March 1916
Type
Unknown
Transcript
Partial
Wiseman does not think Tolkien's Elvish creations ('Kortirion') are "good warm or fair", and neither are the mathematics of scientific discovery. The act (Tolkien's writing, and the scientist creating) are what are good warm and fair. Tolkien's creations only live when he is working on them - once Tolkien finishes creating, they will be dead to him.

Wiseman quotes from Tolkien's prior letter ( Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Christopher Wiseman • c. from 1-13 March 1916 (#1326)) here - our only knowledge of what Tolkien wrote in that letter.

Wiseman apologizes for the argument, he doesn't want to hurt Tolkien.
