Tolkien has learned about the death of his close friend Rob Gilson - one of the four members of the TCBSTea Club and Barrovian Society[1] and writes a long letter about how he feels the group has ended but that he still holds the hope and ambitions the group had discussed when they were last together. Tolkien makes reference to the 'Council of London'.
