To
Miss T.R.C.
Date
Not dated (January 1973)
Type
Unknown
Transcript
Partial
Tolkien details his thoughts on a recent article about him in a paper, and what he thought should have been written about.

He then tells the respondent a bit about his wishes for a biography (if one is to be produced) and says that his son(Christopher) has already been installed to oversee anything like this should it come to pass. He then remarks on his own perceived place in history. Tolkien says that he is a relatively minor figure, aside from the fact that two books that he has written, have sold and continue to sell well.

This new letter was originally numbered as #310a but was moved chronologically during the editing process to #347a. In some editions of The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien Revised and Expanded edition, a footnote mistakenly still refers to this letter as #310a (page 635).

[310a] 1. Tolkien had named Christopher as his literary executor.
