TCG Letter #1923

Tolkien replies to Mabel Day's letter of 6 August. ^{Letter from Mabel Day to J.R.R. Tolkien • 6 August 1937 (#1922)[1]} He says that he hoped to have completed work on her request by now but notes that the death of the librarian at Corpus Christi, Cambridge has meant he has not been able to see the manuscripts. He also notes that the library have said that they do not know of any request to publish the text of their manuscript.

He says he has explained as well as possible directly to A. W. Pollard in previous correspondence.^{See Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to A.W. Pollard (Early English Text Society) • ?16 January 1936 (#1814). If this was the letter to which Tolkien says explained his position, Pollard claims to not have received any letters from Tolkien around this date.[2]}
