Tolkien writes to Furth of GA&U. He agrees that the revised binding would do. He had hoped that the 'wavy line' would be transformed into something and mentions that he tried to find an "ornamental dragon-form" to include. He returns the binding with letter and agrees to its use.
He asks Furth if the "Americans"Houghton Mifflin Co.[1] but notes that he has not done any further work on illustrations.Hammond/Scull note that Tolkien does not wait to hear if HMCo. want more illustrations and begins to produce preliminary sketches.[2]
Tolkien also provides the name of the editor of the Oxford Magazine. Russel Meiggs, at Keble College to whom a copy of The Hobbit should be sent.History of the Hobbit, pp. 888-9[3]
