Only $490 too expensive.
This is a strange one,
Q: I'm sure someone else has asked you this, as this set (i.e. six books) is unusual --but does the slipcase itself say HarperCollins anywhere on it? I mean, did you buy the set like this, or know if it was bought as a set in this slipcase? Any suspicion that the slipcase may have been made, at a later date, to house these? Any more detail appreciated.
A: I'm getting loads of questions on this set as so unusual so get 6 in a set and I my self have not been able to find in I've just checked it and no can't see any thing all I can say was that this was a gift from Harper Collins publishers and only proof I have of that is the box it was sent to me in with the label from them thank
The slipcase was not made at a later date, but is the slipcase for the 3 volume History of Middle-Earth, http://www.tolkienbooks.net/php/details.php?reference=86350
I suspect that HarperCollins were trying to use up the slipcases, if they were sent these books.

Why are you convinced that this is a HoME standard Hb 3-volume slipcase? I mean, they look the same; but why so sure? And why would HarperCollins be needing to get rid of them? Why would they not just fill them with more HoME volumes? I mean, there must be a demand for the 3-volume st. Hb HoME set, as they're still churning them out.

This was more of a warning to anyone bidding on this, as a new and unknown Tolkien box-set.
Without winning the auction and comparing the box with my HoME slipcase, I cannot be a 100% sure, but I think it is the HoME slipcase.
I actually tried to put the relevant editions into my HoME slipcase, and it looks identical.

Way overprived. But unfortunately the book is now longer available at amazon etc.
And I've missed to buy a copy for myself......don't ask me why. I don't know.......
So if anyone has a copy to spare, send me a pn. Thanks!!

Onónion,
I hate to say this, but try to find that "Tales From the Perilous Realm" Deluxe edition for less. You will have your work cut out for you. It must have had a very small print run.
Here's the link again for the preview box:

Urulöké, that's an awful price though, isn't it? Print run was 2,500 according to Deagol (http://tolkienbooks.net/html/1991-present_17b.html), so not that small. Should we suspect that this is the usual opportunist selling, where stock has finally been exhausted with primary/new sellers, but hasn't really filtered onto secondary markets yet? Only time will tell; but you are right --copies are scare right now. This looks likely to happen with the deluxe Arthur too; as the print run for this was similar & I haven't seen any sign of later printings kicking around (as presumably they have been reprinted). Ditto S&G? Anyway, I'd hold fire if I was looking for copies right now. Copies will surely start to reappear again, for less; you'd hope...
