Incidentally, here's the problem with eBay (& collecting Tolkien in 2014 generally):
Worldwide "hobbit" search: 73,411 hits.
Of this, only 7,249 (<10%) are books!
Over 40% of the items are classified under "Clothes, Shoes & Accessories"!

I just wish that they would cut out the middle-man and ship it straight to the land fill where it belongs.
A good portion of those books could just be pulped straight out of the bindery as well, given that far too many of them are probably the one-or-two-Tolkien-books-with-a-dozen-different-titles by David Day.
As a society, I genuinely think we have a massive problem with the constant cycle of worthless crap that we produce, using finite resources and creating pollution in the process.
This is also up on ABE; and was up on ABE when the other eBay copy sold the other week. When the other Methuen was snapped up (very quickly) the other day, I was going to point this out i.e. why the hurry? There are other copies out there. There are, I think, about half a dozen on ABE right now. And there have been copies for less than $700 before. And that's not in the dim distant past; that's this year. Yes these are rare, in the sense of total numbers; but not scarce. You can always locate copies for this kind of price.

Ha! Yeah right.
eBay Item #191388626712
I honestly hate these editions so much, I'd happily pay protection money to not have them.
Just as well I'm not a completeist or I'd have to buy a set :)

I agree and I have these horrible copies, I can't come up with any redeeming features for them :(
If anyone has any of the Guild Silmarillion reprints kicking around, you know where to send them...
