I agree with you, but have no real hope that the general ebay seller will figure out the difference between copyright date and impression date. If they do, likely they will chose to emphasize whichever they feel will increase the value of what they have for sale.

You have hit the nail on the head with " they will chose to emphasize whichever they feel will increase the value of what they have for sale". For the most part, this is what sellers are doing, IMHO. Some sellers are genuinely confused, many are just deceptive (I've had plenty where I have pointed out the mistake choose not to correct their auctions).
