I hope there is a fan that can advise me. I have many items for sale. After 25 years of collecting, I have made the decision to put my collection up for sale, but it's so diverse. Books, art, figures, games, LP, Tape, CD, DVD, collectables from the Tolkien Society (inc a 1st edition Nigglings), badges, T -Shirts, plates, stamps, a pen knife and the list goes on. This if a difficult one to take forward due to the variety and volume of items, into hundreds. I hope someone can give me some good advise.

I suspect you would struggle to sell the collection as a whole, given the diversity (i.e. the likelihood of finding someone with the exact same set of collecting requirements as yourself is probably slim). That said, there is a chap in Brisbane called Peter Kenny who collects all manner of Tolkien stuff, so there are people out there.
I think most people end up going through the hassle of listing things individually (or in related sets) on eBay. Unless the items are especially rare, eBay will probably be a good starting point for knowing what people are paying for similar items, as well.
Worth pointing out some of the things may not have huge value relative to what you may have paid for them, especially if you bought them new (things like collector plates might only be worth a small fraction of the original retail price, for example), so it is important to have realistic expectations, especially where items have been produced in large volumes.
You could always list what items you have for sale up here as well, including a link the any auctions, which might help drum up interest. For UK books, there are definitely people that frequent the site that would have some idea of value, probably also for US ones.
The downside of any collecting is getting rid of everything if/when you lose the bug. I think this is particularly the case with collections that span many types of item.

Hi Stuie
Advise above is sound. To maybe save some time why not post a few pics here to give a flavour of your collection. People may then spot items they may be interested in and contact you.
books are always popular so a list would be good as well
Good luck, sorry to gear you are selling

stuie,
If you have any film related material from the Ralph Bakshi animated movie or either of the Rankin Bass cartoons I would definitely be interested. Send me an email at
[email protected]As others have said selling individuals will net you more money but the hassle can be great with eBay.
