A magnificent one.
The seller has just swap the original 1st printings for the Hobbit, Silm and LotR and replaced them with chinese reprints (check the hobbit gilt title on the spine, green colour instead of dark green, the missing "50th anniversary edition on the spine of LotR, and the wide silm and flat spine of the Silm).
This is really a shame, because that's a true decption for the unadviced buyer...

I don't think it is even that. Isn't that just a David Miller slipcase with reprints in it? That is not the correct finish for the original slipcase, IIRC (My memory is a bit shady as mine are boxed up and I haven't seen them for years).
Ah yes you're right Stu. The correct box set doesn't have the "DELUXE COLLECTION" text, and the monogram is smaller.
But I don't know where this box come from then?

It is one of the things that has always bothered me about those aftermarket slipcases for these (other than being bizarrely arbitrary as a thing for the aftermarket). The other ones that cause me some concern are the replacement cloth slipcases for deluxe HoME.
What are these cloth slipcases?
I also think in this case the eBay seller was deceived, looks like he bought an advertised 500 limited box-set book, then when he tried to sell it on eBay, found out that he had been conned.

The seller wasn't at fault. I emailed to let him know he had reprints (other than CoH) in an aftermarket slipcase and he was very responsive. He himself was either deliberately or mistakenly sold something that wasn't what it purported to be. Which isn't surprising if you produce an outer slipcase that essentially replicates the original and has wording that makes it sound like an original product.
Cloth slipcases in image attached. I'm not saying they are 'wrong' to be produced, but will likely be used to sophisticate books that are missing cases, and that sophistication will likely not be disclosed.
