The preview images on the back look quite promising! Looking forward to seeing a new image each month in 2021.
Also, I'm glad to see Alan Lee's version of Glaurung emerging will be featured in this: the image itself isn't "new", however it wasn't included as an illustration in any edition, and is/was supposed to be used as the cover of a non-English European edition (I wanna say Dutch...) You can see it on the second image, above the "N" in the word "Tolkien."

Not sure that all the images are meant to be "new".
Going by Houghton Mifflin's product description, they are calling them "new" - but what to what extent? New, as in they already exist but haven't been published in a book before, or, were created specifically for the illustrated edition? Either way, I'm sure it'll be a great calendar, and illustrated edition. Now, to see what the slipcased collector's edition looks like....
Oh, and the book I was referring to in my post above, that I forgot to name, is The Children of Hurin, so that image dates back to '06/'07 I know the book was published in '07, though the artwork may have been done in '06.)

I feel that just about half of images will be never seen before. It is interesting if all of them will be included in the calendar. I mean that 18 images are dedicated to the UT special edition, but the calendar has 12 only, so it is interesting if calendar will have all that new art from UT special edition.
My understanding from Ted's agent is that all of his are new, with the exception of the Blue Wizards. Taniquetil was also shown around this year. I recently got more interested in buying original art and boy is it frustrating that Lee and Howe seem to take these assignments and then burn the art. Not really, but it clearly goes into a vault somewhere. Can't wait to see what else is in here.

Alan Lee now completes/improves his paintings digitally, FWIW, so one would assume the originals are not as detailed as (or at least the same as) the final product.
My calendar arrived today. Very nice item from the quick glance. Alan Lee and Ted Nasmith are copyrighted 2007 and 2020 and John Howe's are copyright 2020. I love John's contributions especially.
Looking forward to seeing this image in full (Dutch edition of The Children of Hurin, but I don't know if this image was used as the final cover art)
