It is a great exhibition catalogue, black and white and color reproductions. It has some items pictured not in any other catalogues, from what I recall and a quick scan.
We've tried to share eBay listings when they come up. The site search doesn't find eBay items currently, sorry, so here is a list:
Anyone got an opinion on the Pictures by Tolkien catalogue?
Do you mean "Drawings by Tolkien", the catalogue for the Ashmolean exhibition in 1976/77?
It is an important historical artifact but it only has brief catalogue data entries, very little in the way of pictures and those are all black and white and tiny. I love it, personally - mostly for the card wrappers, which are beautiful ?
Ah yes, I did mean Drawings by Tolkien; was shooting from the hip on the name. And good to know anything in that would also be present in Tolkien: Artist and Illustrator.
If you are looking to find out what Tolkien art is reproduced where, you should definitely check out the Tolkien Art Index website, maintained by Erik Mueller-Harder (@erikmh).
Just a curiosity... I do not have, yet, the catalog but here you can see the exhibition's promotional poster. I got it in Oxford, from a wall near the Bodleian Library (ehem), trying to reach the exhibition (I arrived in Oxford December 27th 1992 :( ). Hope you enjoy it.
