Hi Guy's, what's a reasonable price for the HCollins, LOTR, 1991,Centenary edition illustrated by Alan Lee. In vf/vf?
All the best
All the best
They were £30 when they came out in 1991 and were very popular with buyers at the time to the detriment of the other Centenary hardbacks which did not sell that well and are a lot harder to find today.
I would have thought a good copy should be £30-£50.

Mr. Underhill, the 2 UK ones you've posted here are not 1st impressions though, not even HarperCollins but BCA.
The first print is a bit more tricky to find in fine condition.

Cheers Guy's, I saw the two UK editions were BCA and the other US. Thanks for the "heads-up". I think the HarperCollins 1st/1st is getting, as you say a little more trick. All the best.
Totally right y'all...
Just trying to show that there are options out there in lieu of a 1st.
How about this one?

Yes this one might be a 1st (Tolkien centenary logo on the backside instead of author photo, the "N" of Tolkien on the front is very close to the Morannon right tower).
But it could be 2nd or 3rd impression as well (dustjacket design was revised afterward). The only way to know here is the copyright page.

From what I've been seeing, (and my understanding) is that the black edition (this one) is the one that's harder to find: http://tolkienbooks.net/php/details2.php?id=460
Boxed set with The Hobbit: http://tolkienbooks.net/php/details2.php?id=1254

Yes, theshredking you should message the seller to find out. If it is that's a good price. Less than I paid for mine.
I'd be very surprised if firsts aren't just another edition in plain sight. Just ask sellers for a photo of copyright pages.
