A few years ago someone in this group offered for sale a lovely collection of original water colors (gouaches) by the illustrator Pauline Baynes. Could anyone advise me how I might obtain such a painting, as a special gift for someone?

Hi Paul
Paulines pictures don’t come to market that often so a lot patience and a a fair few pounds are needed nowadays.
This site plus auction houses are your best bet.
Good luck

Hi Laurel(inde),
Thanks for the reply; I can imagine that her paintings are much cherished. I saw a few old sales on Catawiki.
Could you suggest a other online auction houses that might be good places to look?
Regards,
Paul

Hi
There are lots of auction sites
Not sure if you are in uk or not but assuming you are there are the big boys - sotherbys and Christie’s of course but your best bet is to maybe keep checking the sale room . Com and invaluable as they they cover the majority of auctions
Just have to keep looking
Hope helps

Hi Laurel,
Shall do so; Invaluable can be rather distracting, but maybe I can add a filter for PB paintings (I'm writing from Switzerland).
And who knows, maybe someone on this website will hear about a sale.
There seems to be no biography or catalogue of her work; that might be a good retirement project! :)

Findegil Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull are working on something similar to this for Pauline Baynes.

We've been picking away at our Baynes biography/bibliography as time allows, and it's coming along. Osric will be the final entry, no. 213, in Section A (books). There are also 130-some entries for periodicals, and maybe about 50 for odds and ends (e.g. posters).
