I'm wondering if it's the case that all Houghton Mifflin 1st edition printings (even beyond the 1st impression sheets imported from George Allen & Unwin) of The Fellowship of the Ring all present the A&U 1st/1st text—the one prior to the surreptitious resetting.
That is, for their later 1st edition impressions, did Houghton Mifflin reproduce their post-1st impressions of FR from the initial imported 1st/1st sheets, or did they continue to import sheets and reproduce the later printings from A&U?
(Searching online for an answer leads largely to bookseller listings with gasp-inducing prices for 1st/1st sets. I couldn't take it.)
