A new way to release a book, no hard copy only an eBook and Audiobook, not sure why they did not do print-on-demand.

Join Dr. Corey Olsen — also known as The Tolkien Professor — as he embarks on his next adventure exploring the themes, characters, development, and other aspects of one of the famousest of fantasy novels. This time around, you’ll even have the chance (if chance you call it) to get a peek behind the scenes of Dr. Olsen’s writing process.
Just like serialized books in days of yore, those who pre-purchase or subscribe will receive monthly instalments of the book to read as they are created. In addition, Author’s Circle members will have access to notes and outlines, periodical video updates, and even brainstorming sessions as Dr. Olsen works through his text development process.
The Whole Tale from the Beginning
It took 17 years after The Hobbit for Tolkien to publish The Lord of the Rings. The Tolkien Professor’s sequel has taken a decade.
Given the length of the subject, Exploring The Lord of the Rings will be released in six volumes, matching the six books of Tolkien’s story.
The first volume, covering the first half of The Fellowship of the Ring, will launch during Mythmoot IX: Remaking Myth. The introduction will be available freely to all who register on Signum University’s subscription platform Blackberry. Purchasers and subscribers will receive chapters monthly until the first volume is available in full (12 chapters are planned).

I presume (hope) that when all chapters are written and released a hard copy will be an option.
I have only read an ebook once and I believe they are good for researching and travelling but nothing is better than the real thing in my humble opinion.

I am not certain but in the details it says the following about 'The Author's Circle', that seens to be another level of subscription. $25 for the first month. Whether the last point is only for those 'The Author's Circle' members or it suggests a physical final publication that anyon ecan purchase is anyones guess at the moment.
The Author's Circle
Join the Author’s Circle to be an active part of the creative process! Author’s Circle members will receive:
Access to text and audio chapters on release
Access to notes and updates during the writing process
Monthly meetings with the author to discuss and give feedback on the most recent chapter
A mention in the book if they make a suggestion included in the final book
Acknowledgement in the final volume
Personalized versions of the book at final publication
I think they are using the term "press" pretty loosely here. How can you call yourself a press if you are not actually printing books?
Corey Olsen replied on my question on twitter: "Yes. When the book is complete, it will be available on paper as well."

A user on Reddit asked me if the Robert Foster Complete Guide may get a deluxe release in the older deluxe series, which I said I doubted. He came back with a reply from HarperCollins which I though would interest this group. You may all already know this but thought it worth noting. MODS: Feel free to place this in the thread for that book if it is more useful.
From HarperCollins:
From HarperCollins:
"At the moment we are planning only one deluxe edition of The Complete Guide to Middle-earth by Robert Foster. The older series has up until now been reserved for books principally by J.R.R. Tolkien, and we therefore elected to do this one as a clothbound edition at this time."
Can't find out much about this book yet.
