Interesting... so basically the French edition of the Etymologies is more updated than its english counterpart. Am I understanding this correctly?
Basically, yes, except if since the publication of both VT, HarperCollins corrected them (but I doubt it).
A few quick images to compare the previous/new French editions:
- Lord of the Rings : paperpack 2014/15/16 - paperback 2022
- Silmarillion : hardback 2021 - paperback 2022
These new 2022 editions are part of a new revamped paperback collection, with a new graphic charter, closer to the British editions.
More details to come :)

An overview (and a detailed description for French speakers) of the latest Lord of the Rings French paperback edition.
This edition fully launches the new French paperback collection that I have already mentioned here.
In the long term, a large part of Tolkien's works will be found in this one and we will finally have a harmonized collection in French

Good morning to all,
Thank you very much to Bergelmir and Druss for posting this. I am glad to see that the 'Tolkien series' that I've been supervising for ten years for the French publisher Christian Bourgois éditeur seems interesting to some of you. Let me add that:
- 'the French edition of the Etymologies is more updated than its english counterpart' thanks to Christopher Tolkien (and the TTEL)'s permission to have a standalone edition with some corrections inserted
- that the Silmarillion's "stunning" (I agree) cover is an idea of the translator, Daniel Lauzon himself
- that both 'the Silmarillion' (2021, 2022 p. xiii) and "Unfinished Tales" (2022, p.11) editions contain a unique transcription of Christopher Tolkien's own transliteration of the tengwar friezes - with his Estate's permission, I have inserted the transcription found in his own copies of the two books.
have a good day
