The colors and design are FAB. My only gripe is that the heraldic devices seem to be randomly placed on the covers. First Age devices for History of the Lord of the Rings...
These look very lovely, and a full set would look nice.
I’ve come up with a breakdown of these, inspired by the hardback boxed set formatting:
Paperback Collection 1:
- The Hobbit
- The Fellowship of the Ring
- The Two Towers
- The Return of the King
Paperback Collection2:
- The Silmarillion
- Unfinished Tales
- The Book of Lost Tales: Part 1
- The Book of Lost Tales: Part 2
Paperback Collection 3:
- Lays of Beleriand
- The Shaping of Middle-earth
- The Lost Road
Paperback Collection 4:
- The Return of the Shadow
- The Treason of Isengard
- The War of the Ring
- Sauron Defeated
Paperback Collection 5:
- Morgoth’s Ring
- The War of the Jewels
- The Peoples of Middle-earth
- Index
Paperback Collection 6:
- The Children of Hurin
- Beren and Luthien
- The Fall of Gondolin
Decent way to approach buying them in ‘sets’ so to speak. We’ll see if they do The History of The Hobbit (or ‘A Brief’) in this style, along with The Fall of Numenor, and The Nature of Middle-earth. But for now: very nice format.

Have the Hardback cover images been released like this yet? All I can find are isometric photos of them in the boxes. Is there a reason why they wouldn't release them?

These are absolutely fantastic. I have to be sensible as I am not a collector and these would be indulgence gone mad on my part given my lack of space for the new stuff that have coming this year. But these designs are exactly what I would want in a paperback if I were coming to collecting the series now.
Sensible? Apparently I am showing my age 😅
Trotter, very much looking forward to seeing the final image of them together.
I am in a similar position in that I don't really collect paperbacks (though also very much look forward to seeing the photos of them all together). But I do think I am going to buy a copy of the Index paperback because I love the cover with all the heraldic devices and it is always helpful to have the Index in a more usable format. If they release NoMe in a matching paperback I could see myself getting one as well for reference purposes.
I don't think HarperCollins took the time to create the renders and other promotional images for the individual books since they are only available in the box sets --- though a few places (like mytolkienbooks.com) have pictures up of the actual individual books.ArcyltheRed wrote:

I think we'll have to wait a few years (if ever) to get NoMe in this style, despite how well it would fit in with the rest of these given it's contents, since the current paperback released in February last year.
Looks like Harper Collins may have read my repeated suggestions here and elsewhere for a new HoME deluxe collection with Tolkien’s heraldic devices used as a motif for each book, but they executed the ideas on the paperbacks instead of as foil stampings on a new Deluxe set. 😀
