I don't know much about ebay auctions, but why such a low starting price?

If an auction started high it may not gather interest and actually put people off bidding completely. By starting low it gets the interest and people may put a bid in hoping they may get a bargain, hoping no one else will bid.

Not the 1st US edition, but 1st in this format. The Nelson printing.
