Hello Everyone - First time poster, seeking some advice for a recent eBay purchase.
I always wanted a copy of first impressions in sort of artistic binding for my personal collection, so I pulled the trigger on some really rough condition 1st edition, 1st impression books with the intent of having them rebound. Fellowship looks to be an old library rebind, and is in the worst shape by far. The other two are in original but well-worn condition. Maps appear to be original and intact (with admittedly a few extra creases and short tears).
I have a few questions I'm hopeful forum members will be able to help me with:
1. Are there any concerns these books are anything other than UK 1st edition, 1st impressions? I'm relatively new to early edition Tolkien. The reference points for the UK 1sts don't seem as complicated as other books and authors I've collected and they seem to check out. Still, I don't know what I don't know and would like to be certain.
2. I've never had a book rebound before, are there any concerns that I won't be able to have these particular books rebound to match? Fellowship having been cheaply rebound in the past worries me.
3. Are there any binderies in the US that forum members can recommend for a job like this? I suppose I'm not opposed to shipping internationally either, but it's not my preference.
Appreciate your time and responses. Happy New Year!
