Hi all, as some of you know, I am working with Paul Corfield Godfrey and his small team led by Simon Crosby Buttle on Paul's epic operatic adaptations of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. While we work on the two cycles, the opportunity arose for Paul's incredible piano scores to be recorded by renowned pianist Duncan Honeybourne, and those recordings are due to be released in March this year. It is available for pre-order at Volante Opera Productions. For the pianists among you, the complete score is available.[1] Having had the pleasure of listening to the album, I am very excited for the release and to receive my copy of the album.

VARIATIONS AND EPISODES for solo piano by Paul Corfield Godfrey collects the complete piano music composed by Paul Corfield Godfrey over the past fifty years. Three of the pieces derive from the composer’s cycles of works based on the mythology of J.R.R. Tolkien, and form appendices to his epic scenes from The Silmarillion and his musical chapters from The Lord of the Rings. To be released later in 2025)[2]
Piano Rondo: “Akallabêth” depicts the story of the Second Age Kingdom of Men and its downfall; the Wedding March from The Fall of Gondolin is an arrangement for piano of a section of that work; and Piano Episode: “The Passing of Arwen” forms an epilogue to The Lord of the Rings.
The disc also includes a set of Variations on a Bardic Melody which depicts diverse aspects of the Welsh valleys, and
eight miniature Studies written at various times examining different aspects of technical and compositional techniques.
All the works have been recorded especially for this release by Duncan Honeybourne, who is also giving here the first performance of the newly composed Piano Episode: “The Passing of Arwen”.

A note on this new recording: At the start of the year I took up one of three newly created roles at ZARATHUSTRA: The Paul Corfield Godfrey Trust. With Larissa Martins and Klara Claesson, we were thrilled to become 'Officers of the Trust', this new release represents the first since our appointments. It is a great honour to represent Paul and his music and to be a small part in bringing this music (and Paul's other works) to music listeners and Tolkien fans alike.
When I first came across Paul and his epic Silmarillion cycles, I could never have imagined it would lead to my becoming part of his small team, trusted to help bring his works to fans, and to count him, Simon and all the team as friends. I congratulate Paul, Simon and Duncan on an incredible job done with this new album.
