Not sure were to put this so:
I just reported this listing to Abebooks. The exact same copy was sold two days ago on eBay for 999 GBP, from a UK seller.
The original listing:
I assume the seller's other listing for a LotR 1st/2nd set is also fraudulous. The seller has only been active since 24th December 2024.

Yes looks likely to be a scammer.
No other books listed / Pictures stolen from other listings (at least for the Hobbit but 99.99% sure for the other listing also...) Huge red flag.
Be careful people.

Hopefully the buyer didn’t think this was actually signed
It is signed, though not sure how much Roger Crabtree's moniker adds to the book 🤣

One of the worst fakes I’ve seen
G.R.R. Tolkien - famous author of The Lord of the Dragons.
Oh my, I just saw that! Also, not to mention the blatantly obvious dates that make it extremely unlikely: that book was printed in the US in 1970, so that means we are expected to believe that the book was whisked away a short time later to Tolkien who (by his own words) was living a relatively lonely life on Merton Street, then he signed the book and sent it back before September of 1973?
I mean if you are going to try and scam, at least put in some effort and use a book printed at least 10 years earlier.
