I’m definitely interested in this set—what would you say a ‘good deal’ price is to avoid overpaying?

The value is all in the boxset, the Hobbit and Silmarillion are not worth much.

I paid $250 for mine, and it was in flawless condition. Mr. Underhill is correct in that the other books outside of the boxed set are not worth much, but nice to have as they round of the collection nicely, all having gold foil.
What you’re willing to pay if you want these is totally up to you. Seeing as these are somewhat sun-faded, and don’t come up for sale often, (maybe 1-3 a year?) I personally wouldn’t pay over $150-$180. But again, it just depends on how badly you want this set or how patient you are willing to be for another one to show up.
