Don't you love a firmly attached sticker that tears the dust jacket while you try and carefully peel it back.
Sad face.

Books packed in a way that makes it hazardous to open packages using scissors or a knife....resulting in 30 minutes of hard work to open a single book package you have been waiting for for weeks.

Stickers are a real pain. Not Tolkien but I recently picked up the amazing Last and First Men adaptation by Jóhann Jóhannsson. The sticker which spoils the Deutsche Grammophon packaging was put on it by them. They produced a lovely digibook film and music set and then slapped an ugly sticker on it. Stickers should be banned from paper products.

Off-topic, but that is a great piece of music! (Edit: and film of course.)

I love the movie, one of my favourite modern adaptations. The music is superb, as was almost all of his work.

I have a soft spot for Olaf Stapledon as although 50 years apart, we shared a room in the same house for a time. I am glad that he has received at least a bit of attention since he was inducted into the SF&F HoF in 2014.he remains an underrate writer.

Happens a lot when books move through a giant reseller with thousands and thousands of items listed. They stick those really cheap bar code stickers on the book to help keep track of their inventory, which are virtually impossible to remove without damaging the book. Even if you do get them off, they may leave residue or an outline of where it was.

I've had luck with a hair dryer in the past for getting these off without damage to the book. Start peeling an edge of the sticker off while aiming the hair dryer at the spot you’re working on. The dryer is heating up the adhesive in the sticker. Peel gently, and the sticky residue should soften enough that the sticker comes off

When people say "I could care less", when what they really mean is, "I couldn't care less"!

Oh wait, you meant book-collecting pet peeves? Oh. Never mind then.

Little advice with problematic stickers : use a hair dryer to blow for 10, 30 or even 60 seconds on the sticker to completely dry the glue.
The results are often impressive and this (almost) always solves the problem.

Oh no…that is awful. Is that a 1/1 American edition?
