How nice !
Looks like someone bought it, wonder if it will reappear at a vastly inflated price.
Inbelievable.
I just can't imagine for how much my 5th/5th/4th 1st edition set would sell these days...

As question that could be answered in 15 seconds with a Google search. Yep, that's Reddit. I'm giving up on /r/tolkienbooks at this point.
Umm...well that's an asking price.
I wonder of Rare Book Cellar actually gets any of these asking prices that they have.

I haven't dug into rare-book-cellar in ages, but from my research a few years ago, they appeared to be a "book scout" lister. In other words, they would copy other dealer listings at a vast markup, and then if they got an order, they would quickly turn around and purchase the book from the dealer who actually had it. If the real copy happened to be sold, just cancel the transaction or try to find a similar listing and hope the buyer doesn't notice.
Perhaps their practice has changed in the intervening years, but their prices haven't.

This is the first I'm hearing of this practice...that is just awful. "Book vulture" seems more appropriate.
They are notorious in the EP world for (a) listing things as first impression when they have no actual idea if they are (and probably a good idea that they are not), and (b) just buying up a ton of EP stock when it is released and then marking it up by 500%. The EP crowd absolutely hate this seller.
