P.S: while digging a little on TCG I found a conversation where Christina and Wayne were showing a copy with the copyright page and I must admit that in 20 years of research I have just never seen a copy of this famous 16th print. So if there really were 20,000 copies, they must be very, very well hidden ?
Took me 15 years to find one. And I opened pretty much every ebay listing for this edition for those 15 years and checked photos and sent so many messages to sellers where the correct price was on the front of the book but no photo of the copyright page etc. Goodness knows how many messages I sent and how many listings I checked. Add that to checking ABE and other sites!!!
Cannot reconcile this with 20,000 copies - probably not even with 2,000 or 200 copies!

I think the phrase "can I see the copyright page please?" is in first place on my clipboard, always ready to be pasted ?. An endless routine ?. And I totally agree with you ... the amount of impression must be definitely less than the numbers stated!

I have never managed to find a copy of the first printing of this edition.
The correspondence files include some references to problems with the first printing. No numbers quoted, but something went wrong so less than the 20,000 printed may have made it into bookshops.

Posting a link here for those interested in seeing the earlier (2011) thread on this book and the scan from Christina and Wayne's copy.

I have some pics on hand of this though not in the best condition... aside from the copyright page it's the same as the next several impressions.

Arrived today totally unbumped despite Blackwells' totally inadequate packaging. Like BD do to NZ, it was bulk shipped and then the parcel forwarded. I doubt it would have held up to international travel if the parcel had come all the way as it was.
Really nice edition - lightyears better than the UK editions.

Agreed, the German edition is everything that the UK/US trades should have been. Mine arrived with a slight barely noticeable bump on the bottom left hand corner due to no protective wrapping whatsoever
