Uniquely Signed 1st Edition The Silmarillon

I'm curious about what my copy of The Silmarillon might be worth. It is a first edition Billings and Sons Ltd. The thing that sets it apart from others is t hat it was owned by my former father-in-law, Michael Tolkien, JRR Tolkien's eldest grandchild. It was gifted to me as a Christmas present. A message to me from him is written on the inside of the front cover. On the title page he has signed it on behalf of his grandfather, JRR Tolkien and his uncle CR Tolkien.
Photos attached. I have removed my name from the photo of the message to me for privacy reasons.

Welcome to the site, and thanks for sharing this.

It is an interesting item with an unusual Tolkien family connection. I would say that since Michael had nothing to do with the actual making of the volume, his signature doesn’t increase the value all that much from that end. There could be some potential value in just owning his signature which is probably how most would approach it. So I’d say it does add some value but not all that much.

Also it’s signed specifically to you instead of flat signed, which detracts from the value a bit. IMO
