I’m sorry to say that all these Folio editions seem a waste of time buying? That’s how it comes across anyway. I’m sure there are good ones out there but for the price they should be perfect

For anyone buying these used, I would certainly suggest getting a *lot* of detailed photographs from various angles. Absolutely do not buy "still in shipping box - never opened" under any circumstances. Some buyers might be OK with some of the issues exhibited by the books (they are mostly cosmetic, after all -- except for the copies with missing illustrations), but equally they should probably be getting the book somewhat discounted relative to market price if it isn't perfect. Definitely books to tread very carefully with on the used market.

If they produce a Silmarillion to the same design, I will be steering clear. They need to do a decent full-leather binding and just make all these problems go away. Cheaping out with this art-silk quarter binding has really hurt them.

Mr. Underhill seems to have received an acceptable copy, so it is *possible* for them to produce an OK copy, I guess. I'm kind of just sick of the whole thing, really. I suspect a refund/return will be my way forward.

Have checked mine a few times over these past days and it still seems to be okay on the new copy.

I'm working on finding a suitable paper to print the missing images from high res scans for my faulty copy and once that is accomplished, I will tip them in myself.
