I have a question about the Ancrene Wisse showed by Urulókë: is that visible in photo the 'glassine dustwrapper' mentioned in TolkienBooks.net (http://www.tolkienbooks.net/php/details2.php?id=535)? Just wondering how it can be difficult to find a copy with such thin paper wrapping the hardback!

Pauline Baynes - Map of Middle-earth in original packaging - never opened. I’d assume pretty uncommon like this.

You are correct, both Deagol's photo on TolkienBooks.net and my photo show the glassine dustwrapper. It tends to be quite scarce for two reasons - it is quite fragile, and it is plain (nothing printed on it) so most original buyers never bothered to keep it.

That's fantastic! I have never seen one in this condition, not being old enough to have bought one new (it came out the year before I was born, and I wasn't a collector in my toddler years ?)

I do have a set of five Stephen Hickman posters in perfect/new condition I managed to get last year for about $30 - was quite happy to come across that listing on eBay!

Is the original glassine in its consistency distinguishable from 'normal' glassine? Isn't the fragility a question of environmental circumstances?

There's nothing distinguishing the Ancrene Wisse wrapper from other 60-year-old glassine that I know of, no.
